| | Halton Hills Lecture Series - The Golden Spike: Crawford Lake from Archaeology to Anthropocene | |
| Crawford Lake is a remarkable
body of water. At over 10,000 years old, the lake has unique properties that
allow it to preserve a fascinating record of natural and human induced
environmental change in its sediment. Conservation, science, and Indigenous knowledge
have come together to tell a compelling story of the land and our impact upon
it over the past 1000 years. From the discovery of corn pollen that led to
reconstruction of a 15th century longhouse village to the designation of the
lake as the host of the Golden Spike for the proposed Anthropocene Epoch, this
presentation by Francine M.G. McCarthy, Professor of Earth Sciences at Brock University,
will explore all the secrets of Crawford
Lake! | |
