The Orillia
Silver Band celebrates the holiday season with its traditional Sleighbells
and Brass Christmas Concert. The concert takes place on Sunday, November 29, 2026, 2:00 pm at the Charles
W. Stockey Centre for the Performing Arts in Parry Sound. Concert tickets are available from the Stockey
Centre Box Office.
This event
continues a long and happy tradition of holiday music in Parry Sound provided
by the Orillia Silver Band. Neil Barlow,
the band’s Music Director and Conductor has made sure that the program offers plenty
of holiday music for all tastes. The
band will feature both traditional as well as new tunes of the season, along with
ample opportunity to request and sing your favourite carols.
The concert
opens with the festive and sparkling Intrada on Regent Square by Kenneth
Downie. Among the items to be performed
this year are Erik Leidzn’s rousing Christmas
Joy; the ever-favourite Silent Night
in an arrangement by Gordon Langford; and a scintillating new medley of holiday
hits called A Christmas Fantasia by Andrew Wainwright.
Modern
holiday tunes such as Somewhere in My Memory by John Williams (from the
movie “Home Alone”) and Linus and Lucy by Vince Guaraldi (from “A
Charlie Brown Christmas”) are not to be missed.
The concert also features soloists from the band in a number of seasonal
selections from G. F. Handel’s Messiah.
The music of
Leroy Anderson is almost synonymous with holiday cheer. Included in the program is his Christmas
Festival, one of the most well-known selections for the holidays from the
20th Century.
Of course,
it wouldn’t be a Silver Band Christmas concert without an audience-request
sing-a-long. So, come prepared to
exercise your vocal skills with your favourite Christmas carols.
Please don’t
miss this entertaining afternoon of holiday cheer! |
