The Changing Face of Canada's Boreal ForestsDr. Jennifer Baltzer, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science
Amplified high latitude warming is driving dramatic changes in the structure, composition and function of boreal forests globally. These changes include direct impacts of climate change on tree growth and indirect impacts through increased rates of disturbances due to thawing permafrost and altered wildfire regimes. During this lecture, the boreal biome, recent advances in our understanding of how it is changing in the face of climate warming and associated disturbances, and the impacts of these changes for ecosystem services will be discussed.
The lecture series is a partnership between the Town of Milton, Wilfrid Laurier University, and the Milton Public Library.
Admission is free. No registration is required. All lectures take place from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month, from October to May.
