Venue: FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton
Description:

Waste Not, Want Not: Rethinking Wastewater Treatment
Dr. Scott Smith, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Faculty of Science

Global water shortages and improved standards of living in emerging economies, coupled with aging infrastructure, will lead to global opportunities for wastewater treatment and reuse technologies. Most wastewater treatment plants in North America were built in the mid-sixties to early seventies and are approaching the end of their design life.  Now is a perfect time to rethink methods of treating wastewater with a new emphasis on resource recovery.  The history of wastewater treatment will be discussed along with a presentation of future possible water use scenarios and a discussion of the consequences of not rethinking our approach to wastewater treatment.

The lecture series is a partnership between the Town of Milton, Wilfrid Laurier University, and the Milton Public Library.

Admission is free. No registration is required. All lectures take place from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month, from October to May.
