MoonlightTuesday May 9, 7.p.m.
Presented by Films on the Scugog, a TIFF Film Circuit
The second TIFF film offering in our 2017 series is Moonlight, winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture (amid unprecedented confusion at the awards ceremony!). Our reason for bringing it to Lindsay was because of the groundswell of support and enthusiasm for this story about coming-of-age under social tension and strife, a story which can be relevant anywhere.
A young, African-American, gay man deals with his dysfunctional home life and comes of age in Miami during the "War on Drugs" era. The story of his struggle to find himself is told across three defining chapters in his life as he experiences the ecstasy, pain, and beauty of falling in love while grappling with his own sexuality.
“Basking in this Moonlight is one of the cinematic joys of the year.” Calvin Wilson, St. Louis Post-Dispatch
"Moonlight is a film of rare grace - a tender, compassionate, restrained look at a life lived in the shadows.” Adam Graham, Detroit News
“The indie drama touches on themes of race, sexuality and isolation in ways that are rarely depicted in cinema.” Maria Reinstein, US Weekly
