Title: Saturday Night Special
Venue: Academy Theatre for Performing Arts
Lynyrd Skynyrd is without a doubt one of the most iconic rock bands to emerge from the US and is best known for having popularized around the world the Southern rock music genre during the 1970s. The band gained worldwide recognition for its live performances with signature songs like "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird". But at the peak of their success, lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and backup singer Cassie Gaines died in a highly publicised airplane crash in 1977 putting an abrupt end to the 1970s era of the band. Due to popular demand, the surviving members re-formed in 1987 for a reunion tour with Ronnie’s younger brother, Johnny Van Zant, on lead vocals.
Lynyrd Skynyrd continues to tour and record with co-founder Gary Rossington along with Johnny Van Zant and Rickey Medlocke.

Lynyrd Skynyrd has sold 28 million records in the United States alone and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 13, 2006. Now, Canada’s own Saturday Night Special is coming to the Lindsay Academy Theatre to deliver a tribute in the true essence of the iconic southern Skynyrd sound.
